Retrofitting BMW CarPlay – Overview & Compatibility
The fastest way to Apple CarPlay && Android Auto in your BMW. Here you can find out which system you have (CCC, CIC, NBT or EVO), which kit you need and how the Installation works – including video instructions and support.
Will CarPlay fit in my BMW?
Briefly answer these 3 questions – then you’ll know what you need:
- Year of construction & model series (e.g. E90/E91/E92/E93, E60/E61, F or G models).
- Which head unit system?
- CCC (older models, menu with lists)
- CIC (newer menu with tiles, but without apps)
- NBT (similar to the CIC, a bit more modern)
- EVO (ID5/ID6) (modern tile look)
- Audio path available? AUX/Bluetooth Original active = sound is running safely.

Installation – this is how it works
- Remove the cover/head unit, LVDS and switch power.
- Optic cable repin.
- Plug in the Quadlock connector.
- First start, Pairing and short Driving test (Sound, rear view camera, PDC).
Time required: approx. 30–60 minutes depending on model/experience.

Common mistakes && quick solutions
- No sound: AUX not active → Select/activate AUX in iDrive, connect AUX cable to AUX IN of the vehicle.
- Switching to the old system does not work: Wrong size of the old system stored in the settings, connector loose, cable crushed or the wrong system ordered.
- Keys do not respond or are sensitive: Re-pin optic cable.
- Microphone quiet: Increase volume in settings.
